Queen Hatshepsut

Ruled from 1503-1482 B.C. Married to Thutmose II After her husband died, Hatshepsut dressed like a man and ruled as a pharaoh. She became the first female pharaoh in Egyptian history.

Hatshepsut’s Accomplishments

Queen Hatshepsut was a ruler who worked hard to increase Egyptian trade through trade routes. To increase trade, she sent Egyptian traders: South, to trade with the kingdom of Punt, located around the Red Sea North, to trade with people in Asia Minor and Greece

Results of Hatshepsut’s Accomplishments

As a result: trade expanded Increase of wealth in the economy She used the money that was gained from trade to support the arts as well as architecture.

Honoring Queen Hatshepsut

A temple near Thebes was built to honor Queen Hatshepsut for the many great temples and monuments that were built during her reign.

Queen Hatshepsut’s Death

Queen Hatshepsut died after ruling for 15 years. After her death, Queen Hatshepsut’s bitter step-son, Tuthmosis III, took the throne and vandalized Hatshepsut’s monuments.

King Ramses II

Another ruler who worked to expand Egypt was King Ramses II, also known as Ramses the Great. King Ramses started ruling at age 10 as an army commander. He was a ruler for a total of 67 years.

King Ramses’ Accomplishments

Like Queen Hatshepsut, he also expanded Egypt. However, he accomplished this by going to war and conquering lands.

Although King Ramses is known for being one of Egypt’s greatest warriors, he was also known as a peace-maker, by being the first king in history to ever sign a peace treaty with his enemies, the Hittites.

Also similar to Queen Hatshepsut, many monuments were built during his reign (more than during the reign of any other pharaoh).

King Ramses’ Death

King Ramses died in the early 1200’s BC. His mummy is known to be one of the best preserved.
